Summer Sewing With Eyelet, Embroidery & Lace

I’ve been gathering a collection of eyelets, embroideries and lace for the website for months, so when the warm weather hit last week, I hit the studio. Last summer I made black eyelet pants and loved them. This season I'm coveting a loose floaty top, combining a current Marcy pattern with a fabric from our new Eyelet Collection.

Paris Windows Photo Report: Eyelet, Lace & Embroideries

On a hunch last fall and winter I was attracted to eyelets, laces and embroidered summer fabrics, picking them up here and there. All of a sudden they seemed fresh and new and I had fun hunting them down. When I hit Paris at the end of April, I started seeing lots of these kinds of fabrics in shop windows and displays as shown in these photos. Read more...

Paris Windows

Darting down the streets of Paris, running errands, on the way to and from meeting friends, dinner, shopping and dodging around streets that are closed because they are shooting a Tom Cruise movie, I take quick photos of clothes in the shop windows that catch my eye. I don't always 'like' what I see, but...

New Favorite: a little bit funky

The ONE item I know I will aways wear is a black cardigan, collect them in different weights for all seasons. This summer weight little black cardi is the result of my resolve to sew things I wear in everyday life (as opposed to too fancy-schmancy). After the last closet clearing frenzy, realized once again that I have far too many 'special' garments in the closet that are much too 'good' to wear for my daily working life at home. Three trends I saw in Paris that I wanted to incorporate in this piece are...

Early Fall Marcy Pattern: A Top For All Seasons

Two new Marcy Tilton patterns are in the just released fall Vogue pattern collection. Vogue 9216 features a slim lined vest with tucked away darted pockets and a narrow ponte jean. The second design, Vogue 9207, features a top/t-shirt that combines knit and woven. A big plus is that the vest, pant and top all work and layer together. This blog highlights the top with another blog to follow on the vest and pant combination. I'm working on a version of the vest right now and want to share that with you as soon as it is done...

Easy Peasy Soft Summer Pants

Loving summer at home where my wardrobe needs are basic, but I still like to play at creative dressing. One summer design focus is ‘work’ clothes, a relatively unexplored category, for me as I tend to make things that are too precious or too dressy. It promises to be hot, and I’ve been craving soft light yet clothes with pockets in fabrics that make me feel good and at the same time that can stand up to daily home/work life in the country, where I cook, clean, sit at the computer, take photos, play with animals, and sometimes sew. First on the studio list is to make soft, light weight, flattering AND comfortable pants...
