Over the past month I’ve been getting the website ready for the time I’ll be in Paris, which translates to a steady daily routine of photographing and posting ahead. While I'm out galavanting around Paris, new fabrics will post every day during the 3 weeks while I’m away. Our fabulous ArtBarn team is holding down the home front to keep your orders coming and handle customer calls and service. Nearly 100 new fabrics are in the lineup!
We'd love to have you join us in 2017!
Katherine and I leave for Paris this week (with a fabric buying stop in LA first). We're excited to meet up with our tour group of 13...a nice witchy number! In the group are star bloggers Margy Houtz of Fool For Fabric and Shams of Communing With Fabric, so we are sure to have a lively time with blogging galore.
Since returning from New York and the family wedding last month, my own personal sewing has languished, but I had one great studio weekend with Gwen Spencer. We produced prototypes for 2 upcoming 2017 Fall and Holiday Vogue patterns: a knit tunic for Fall and an easy to sew slim pant for Holiday.
Gwen's hands in the photo below...she is a master of hand sewing, her mantra is, 'just start by putting the needle into the cloth'.
We pour heart and soul into choosing fabrics, making samples, and then making decisions about construction. Self proclaimed sewing nerds, we sew side by side, and while the sewing happens, we discuss the best construction techniques, favorite tools and on and on. I write the instructions, reading aloud to Gwen to see that things make sense. Thanks go to my friend Jean Bailey, who received an advance copy of the pattern to sew for herself so she is familiar with the design. Jean is an editor and technical writer, and proofs the copy, then shoots it back to me. I then fine tune the pattern, photograph the garments and pack everything up and send it to Vogue. The Fall patterns we worked on will be released mid July 2017, and the Winter/Holiday in late September.
At the end of the day, we relax with a great meal and some fine local wine.
While I can't show you the finished pattern prototypes, I can say that the tunic has a godet. The video below shows how Gwen achieves a smooth easy hem on the curved godet hem.
Take a look at our NEW HOLIDAY FABRIC COLLECTION, over 40 new holiday ready fabrics, some dressy, some kicked back. For now, all the Holiday Fabrics are grouped together in a special section on the website. In upcoming weeks, they will also be found in their other categories (Knit, Woven etc).
